Police today arrested two members of a gang that fired upon a transport department team while trying to smuggle cattle in a truck in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur district.
The transport department team was checking vehicles on the Rudrapur road under Bilaspur police station area when they asked a truck to stop, police said.
Instead, the occupants tried to ram them with the vehicle and also opened fire, police said. They were chased and stopped near Katiyagir village and 24 heads of cattle, a country made gun with cartridges and a knife were recovered.
Three other members of the gang managed to escape, police said adding a case has been registered.
