Two persons, one of them an employee of local Agricultural Market Committee, were killed after being hit by a lorry which they tried to stop at a check post on the city's outskirts today, police said.

The deceased were identified as P Narender (40), a Junior Secretary in the committee, and B Kondaiah (45), a security guard, according to Karimnagar Deputy Superintendent of Police J Rama Rao.

The two, deployed at a check post on the outskirts of Karimnagar city, signalled a heavily-loaded lorry to stop. Its driver, however, ignored their sign and sped away, Rao said.

Immediately, Narender and Kondaiah chased the lorry on a bike and directed the driver to stop. But, the driver hit their motorcycle and ran away, he said.

The duo sustained grievous injuries and immediately shifted to a hospital, where they succumbed, the DySP said.

Police later seized the cotton-laden lorry, which is registered in Haryana, but its driver is absconding.
