Two Intermediate students, who allegedly attempted cheating using hi-tech electronic gadgets during supplementary exams at a college here were arrested, police said today.

Using a Bluetooth device concealed in their inner wear with a secret microphone and cell phones, the duo -- Shaik Aijaz and Mohd Samiyullah -- tried to execute hi-tech copying during a supplementary exam held on March 12 at S R Nagar. The attempt was, however, foiled, Hyderabad Police said in a release.

The Chief Superintendent and other officials, who were frisking the students while entering the examination centre, found that Aijaz had an electronic gadget for copying. He was later taken to S R Nagar Police station and a complaint was lodged, it said.

During questioning, Aijaz 'confessed' that he was carrying the gadget with an intention to "cheat" the examiners while taking the supplementary paper, police said, adding the duo was held yesterday.

Explaining the modus operandi, they said, while Aijaz sat in the exam hall, Sami called on his phone which is answered automatically. Sami then reads out (set of) questions and if that particular question appeared in the paper, Aijaz coughed signalling- yes, and then Sami dictated the answer.
