Two head constables were arrested by Lokayukta police on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 from a panchayat official in Jobat town in the district.

The head constables, Ramkumar Yadav and Gajendra Bhargava who were posted at Jobat police station, had demanded Rs 10,000 from the complainant in a case of disappearance of a woman, Lokayukta Inspector Dinesh Chandra Patel said.

The woman disappeared about eight days back from her house in Jamni village following which a missing person report was filed at Jobat police station, he said.

However, the woman recently came back to her house and when the two came to know about it, they went to her residence and demanded Rs 10,000 from the family on the ground that she came back because of their efforts and that they should be given the amount to meet their expenses, Patel said.

Taking a serious note of the matter, Jamni Panchayat's Assistant Secretary Tikamsingh tipped-off Lokayukta Police at Indore, following which a trap was laid and both the policemen were arrested after they accepted the bribe.

A case under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against them in this regard.
