Two constables were today arrested for allegedly torturing a tribal boy at a police station in Bhiwandi town, police said.
After he was allegedly beaten up by the constables on the night of June 20, who are attached to the Nizampura police station, the 16-year-old victim, identified as Babu Thackeray, attempted suicide at his house in Mithpada locality on June 21 fearing that he would be subject to torture again.
The condition of Thackeray, who tried to kill himself, by hanging, is serious.

"Dhiraj Khairmode (27) and Jalinder Bhojne (26) had allegedly thrashed Thackeray alleging that he had involved in theft of gold," said senior police inspector (crime Branch-III) B S Bhudwal.
The duo were booked under sections 330 rw 34 (voluntarily causing hurt to extort confession, or to compel restoration of property) and 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) of the IPC, he said.
The case was registered against the accused following the intervention of a local MLA Vivek Pandit.
The MLA demanded that the constables be booked under the charge of attempt-to-murder and under the Prevention of Atrocities Act.
The accused duo were produced before a magistrate's court which remanded them in judicial custody for seven days and granted them bail.
