A local court today sentenced ten persons including two policemen to ten years in jail for robbing employees of a city-based courier firm of jewellery worth Rs 6 crore.

Additional Sessions Judge P S Tarare sentenced the ten persons, including Sub-Inspector Mahadev Dengle and Constable Mayur Dengade, after finding them guilty of robbing the courier firm employees.

According to the prosecution, the incident dates back to November 2013 when three employees of the courier company were accosted by some 'policemen' while on their way to the airport to dispatch packets of diamonds and gold jewellery to various cities .

The 'policemen' stopped their car near Bandra-Worli Sealink for 'over-speeding.'

While one of the policemen asked them to step out of teh vehicle and come to the police station, two others drove off the car along with the driver.

The police arrested the car's driver first, who revealed that police Sub-Inspector Mahadev Dengle and constable Mayur Dengade were involved in the plan to rob the courier company's employees.

The prosecution examined 30 witnesses during the trial. Judge P S Tarare today convicted all the ten accused including Dengle and Dengade, and sentenced them to ten years in prison for robbery.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of them.
