Two cricket betting racket busted in Kolkata, six arrested

The Police in Kolkata have busted two cricket betting rackets and arrested six people, besides recovering over Rs 39,000 in cash.

Four persons were nabbed from a hotel in the city's posh Park Street area, while two others were picked up from a residence on Ballygunge Circular Road area last night, the police said.

Acting on a tip-off that a betting racket was active during yesterday's India-Australia World Twenty20 match at Mohali, Kolkata Police arrested Vishal Khoti (25) a resident of the New Market area, Pankaj Chanda (29) of Howrah's Golabari, Sumit Pokli (40) of Bangur, Sanjay Chowdhury (41) of Tangra from a five star hotel on Park Street.
 

Two laptops, 11 mobile phones, one pen drive, one card reader and cash amounting to Rs 39,500 were recovered from the four, an officer said adding they were remanded to police custody till April 14.

Meanwhile, two persons - Anil Agarwal (40) and Pradip Jain (45) were arrested for allegedly betting during the same cricket match from 34/1 Ballygunge Circular Road, the officer said.

Two laptops, two mobile phones one, wifi-router, one television set and a few documents have been seized from the duo's possession, he said adding the two were remanded to police custody till April 4.
