Two criminals held, ASI shot at

An assistant sub-inspector of police was shot by two criminals during an operation but the raiding police team managed to arrest the two at a village in Purnia district today.

Superintendent of Police Ajit Kumar Satyarthi said a police team, acting on a tip-off, raided Sukhshan village under Barhara police station to arrest Sushil Mandal alias Mahatma and Pankaj Mandal alias Kishore Mandal.

The criminals had fired on the policemen in a bid to escape, but the men in uniform retaliated and apprehended the duo with two pistols and five cartridges, the SP said.

Assistant sub-inspector Virendera Kumar sustained injuries in the firing and was hospitalised.
 

The two were wanted in several cases of murder, loot and other offences.
