Two-day national insulin summit begins

A two-day National Insulin Summit commenced here today.

It is being organised jointly by the Diabetes Research Society and the Novo Nordisk, a global leader in diabetes care.

Vice President of Novo Nordisk India Melvin D'Souza, said 'diabetes is an emergency in slow motion'.

He said diabetes 'is a very real threat to India's economy and developmental goals.'

The summit was inaugurated by Head of the Department of Endocrinology in the privately managed Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Dr Ashok Kuma.

A release from the organising committee said around 300 experts from across the country and 30 internationally reputed faculty in the field of diabetes participated in the deliberations.
