The vehicle travelling from Pabau village to Kotdwara last evening fell into the gauge near Bhadalikhal village killing the driver and an unidentified person on the spot, police said.
The driver was identified as Vinod Kumar (35) and the unidentified person was around 25 years, police said.
Locals informed the emergency ambulance service about the mishap and rescued the seven injured with the police also helping in the rescue work.
The injured were admitted to Kotdwara Government Hospital, the bodies were sent for postmortem.
"Two women and five men have been admitted in the hospital and their health is being closely monitored as they are seriously injured", B S Samant, CMO of the hospital said.
"The cause of the accident has not yet been ascertained as the driver is dead and others injured are serious," Circle Officer Aruna Bhartee said.
