Two detained with Rs 17.66 lakh cash in Sangli

Police today detained two persons with Rs 17.66 lakh cash, including Rs 10.24 lakh in Rs 2000 tender, after intercepting their car in Sangli town in western Maharashtra.

The incident occurred at Balwadi diversion on Khanapur-Vita road around 11 AM during patrolling by police.

Upon checking, police found the cash stuffed in a bag placed on back seat of the car.

The duo are identified as Pandurang Pise (30) and Sachin Doshi (38), both residents of Malshiras in Solapur.

The cash comprised currency notes of Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50, Rs 100, Rs 500, apart from Rs 2000.

Police found only one piece of old Rs 500 bill.
 

Pise and Doshi are being questioned over the source of money while Income Tax department has been informed about the cash.
