A 19-year-old man drowned after he jumped into a water-filled ditch to save a drowning 12-year-old girl on Monday evening, police said.
The bodies of Seema Meena and Rakesh Meena were fished out of the ditch and sent to the local hospital for post-mortem, they said.
According to police, the girl was trying to save a buffalo calf who had fallen into the ditch in Maanpura village in Bundi district.
The incident occurred at around 6 pm when the girl, in an attempt to rescue the calf, slipped into deep water and drowned, SHO of Dei police station Doulat Sahu said.
Rakesh was passing by and after noticing that the girl was drowning, jumped into the ditch but he too drowned, Sahu added.
By the time, the two were rescued by the villagers, they had died, he said further.

In a separate incident, the body of Deepak Aerwal, a resident of Shorekhankala under Anta police station of Baran district was recovered from a rivulet on Monday, police said.
Aerwal was swept away by the current after he jumped into the rivulet to save his buffalo on Sunday morning, police added.
