Two die in rain-related incidents in Salem

Two persons have died in rain-related incidents in Salem district, police said today.

The body of a 25-year-old man was found near Marapalam bridge today. The man was going on his two-wheeler last night when he was washed away by flash floods at Marapalam bridge.

In the other incident, a man died when a wall of his house caved in yesterday, police said.

Six huts were damaged in rains near the old bus-stand area.

In Erode, many people burst crackers today on account of Diwali festival, unmindful of the rain.

There was slightly heavy rain in Perundurai and Vijayamangalam area in the afternoon. Rain water entered seven houses constructed behind a percolation pond, forcing inmates to shift to some safer nearby areas.
 

State Environment Minister Thoppu N. Venkatachalam along with District Collector S Prabakar inspected the houses.

He said proper relief measures would be provied to the seven house owners after assessment conducted by Revenue officials.
