A 50-year-old woman and a minor boy have succumbed to Rabies, four weeks after they were bitten by an infected dog at Dangariya village in Panchmahal district of Gujarat, a Health official said on Wednesday.

Chief District health Officer S K Mod also said

health of five more victims is closely monitored.

The deceased included seven-year-old Yuvraj Baria, who died on Wednesday at his village, and Shardaben Baria who succumbed to the infection on Tuesday, he said.

The dog had attacked and bitten seven persons in Dangariya village on August 2, the officer said, adding that it was killed by villagers on the same day.

"Yuvraj and Shardaben had suffered deep and multiple wounds. They were given partial immunisation but contracted rabies. They were first referred to Godhra hospital and then to Vadodara. However, they preferred to stay back at home and treat themselves using local remedies," he said.

Mod said five other victims are being monitored.

"They have been asked to get vaccination shots on time and contact hospital if they develop any symptom," he added.

Rabies is a viral infection that mainly spreads through a bite from an infected animal.
