Two women drowned and three others, including a boy, went missing after a mechanised boat capsized today in a barrage on river Godavari near here in Andhra Pradesh, police said.

The mishap occurred when seven persons from Korukonda village were returning after attending a marriage at Bommuru Lanka village on the other side of Dowleswaram barrage, Shivaji Raju, Rajahmundry (Rural) Circle Inspector, told PTI.

The boat overturned and capsized around 3 pm after being caught in strong winds and heavy inflow of water in the river due to last evening's incessant rains in East Godavari district, he said, adding two persons swam to safety.

Bodies of two women were later fished out from the barrage, while a search was on for the three missing persons -- two women and a boy, Raju said.

The bodies were yet to identified, he said.

Senior officials from Rajahmundry, who rushed to the spot, are supervising the search operation.

Meanwhile, the heavy winds and rain that lashed the district disrupted power supply at several places, an official said.
