A BJP activist and a woman were arrested on charges of drug peddling from Kotrani village, police said today.

The accused have been identified as Harjit Singh alias Ladi and Sheela Rani.

The duo was arrested last night after a tip-off that they were moving in a car in Kotrani village in search of customers, police said, adding 200 intoxicating pills of a contraband were seized.

The arrest was made under relevant Sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The car was also impounded, they added.

The duo told police that they used to get these pills from a medical store in Patel Nagar and sold it among youths, including college students.

Though Ladi is presently a local BJP activist, he still displayed a sticker of the party's block vice-president on his car, police said.

However, BJP's local leadership denied that Ladi held any office.

Police raided the medical store and seized 28 boxes of drug capsules and pills.

The store has been sealed. Its owner allegedly sold drug capsules and pills without any prescription, police said.
