Two drug smugglers were arrested in Meghalaya's Ri-Bhoi district and a huge cache of banned Phensedyl cough syrup was seized from the Tripura-bound vehicle they used, police said today.
"We have arrested two drug smugglers from Byrnihat while they were travelling en-route to Agartala and the drugs and the vehicle was seized," Superintendent of Police C V S Reddy told PTI.
He said 1100 bottles of banned cough syrup Phensedyl was seized from the light motor vehicle they were travelling in early yesterday morning.

Driven by Gautam Rai, the Tata Sumo was driven all the way from Kolkata and on reaching Byrnihat, they were stopped at a check point where a huge consignment of drugs were recovered and seized from their vehicle, the SP said.
The other occupant identified as Santu Das was also arrested and both were booked under relevant sections of the IPC for violating the Narcotic Psychotropic Substances Act, 2000.
During preliminary interrogation, both admitted to have been involved in smuggling the banned drugs and the consignment is meant to be delivered to Tripura border where it would be sent to Bangladesh, a senior police officer on duty said.
