Two DSPs and six other police officers were today injured when some members of Kamboj sect attacked them during a protest over a land dispute in Sunam town.

Police resorted to lathicharge in retaliation after the protesters turned violent and allegedly pelted stones at them during the dharna before Shaheed Udham Singh Dharamshala near Sitasar Sarover temple, police said.

The Kamboj sect claimed the ownership of a piece of land, where the temple management had erected a tent in view of Maha Shivratri celebrations, is a matter of dispute between them and the temple committee.

Superintendent of Police, Paramjit Singh Goraya said some anti-social elements injured DSPs Teja Singh and Krishan Kumar, when both were working out negotiations on the ongoing tussle between Kamboj sect and temple management. The injured are under treatment at Sunam civil hospital.

He said about six other cops, including two women constables, were also injured in melee. About 24 protesters also sustained injuries during the clash.
