Two elderly women arrested for possessing poppy extracts

The GRPF has arrested two elderly women after 2.5 kg of poppy extracts worth Rs 15 lakh was seized from their possession at Malda railway station here.

Acting on a tip off, the women, aged 62 and 60, were arrested at Malda railway station. Both of them were travelling to Bengaluru by Tinsukia-Bengaluru Express when the GRPF arrested them, GRPF Inspector in-charge KG Dutta said.

"2.5 kg of of poppy extracts, used for making narcotic drugs, was seized from their possession," Dutta said, adding the women are residents of Kalia chowk area in Malda.

The women will be produced before Malda court today, he said.
