Two employees of a cement plant were killed after falling from a height in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh, leading to a violent protest, police said.

The incident took place at Birla Perfect Cement plant at Maihar, 55 km from here, late Thursday evening.

The deceased were identified as Piyush Tiwari (35), a mechanical engineer, and Prabhu Dayal Patel (40), a labourer.

District Superintendent of Police Santosh Gaur said that Tiwari and Patel reportedly fell from an overhead platform.

Some material stacked on the platform also rolled off as they fell, burying them and some other labourers who were standing below, Gaur said.

While Tiwari and Patel died on the spot, others were rescued unhurt, he said.

Angered by the incident, some employees and local people from Tigra, a nearby village, torched the plant's administrative building and two vehicles, the SP said.

Police rushed to the spot and the situation was under control, he added.

"We have started investigation," he said.
