Two farmers allegedly committed suicide in Ajmer and Bharatpur districts in Rajasthan purportedly due to loss to their crops, police said today.

Mahendra Singh (22) hanged himself from a ceiling hook in his house in Beawar town of Ajmer district yesterday when his family members had gone to attend a religious feast, SHO Beawar Sadar, Anoop Singh said.

In a report filed with the police, the deceased's father said that Mahendra was under stress after his crops were destroyed in the unseasonal rains sometime back, the SHO said.

In Bharatpur district, Bankelal (25) allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Paharsar village yesterday, police said.

His family told police that he was disturbed due to crop loss, they said.

Both the cases are being investigated to ascertain whether damage to crops was the reason behind the suicides, police said.
