Two men from Rajasthan on a tour of Tamil Nadu were killed today after their bus hit the ceiling of a subway near Erode, about 390 km from here.

The tourists, Om Prakash (60) and Mahender Singh (35) were sleeping on the roof of the bus when the mishap occurred.

The two along with 46 others had chartered a bus from Jaipur district on September 18 and the group visited many places including the Madurai Meenakshi Temple before leaving for Mysore in Karnataka yesterday.

"By mistake, the tourists took the Chennimalai Road instead of taking the Mysore Highway from Erode and the accident occurred near KK Nagar underpass," P Shanmugam, Sub Inspector, Erode Taluk police told PTI.

Soon after the accident, the two were rushed to a government hospital in Erode, where they were declared brought dead. The tourists are exploring the possibility of taking the bodies to their home town, he added.
