A couple from Telangana were arrested after they allegedly submitted fake documents to get a visa to the US, police today said.

Kesavarao Kanjatty, a farmer who could not make ends meet from farming, was told by his friends that he could make good money in a foreign country like the US and Haleem, a Hyderbad based man, offered to "prepare" fake documents so that he and his wife could get a visa to America, police said.

An advance payment of Rs 25,000 was allegedly made by Kanjaatty to Haleem.

When Kanjatty turned up for an interview along with his wife with the US Consulate officials here yesterday, fake documents were detected, police said.

They have been remanded in judicial custody while a search is on for Haleem, police added.
