Two get 14 years' RI in contraband smuggling case

A local court here today convicted two persons to 14 years' Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and slapped Rs one lakh fine on each in a two-year-old narcotics smuggling case.

Additional District Judge Anil Kumar Singh convicted the accused duo Md Yasin Alam and Bhairon Singh, natives of Gaya and Patna districts respectively, to 14 years' RI and slapped Rs one lakh fine on each after finding them guilty in smuggling of 400 kg ganja (cannabis).

According to prosecution, police had arrested the convicts from Hajipur-Patna Ganga river bridge checkpost on November 11, 2011 and seized 400 kg ganja from a vehicle in which they were travelling from Hajipur to Patna.
 

The two were booked under section 414 (concealment of stolen property) of the IPC and section 20/22 of the NDPS Act.
