A local court awarded capital punishment to two tribals today for gangrape and murder of a 12-year-old girl a year and half ago.
Additional Sessions Judge of Dhalai district, Arindam Paul, awarded the death sentence to Rashida Tripura (25) and Jhani Tripura(20) for the crime committed at Raishyabari in the district on February 7 last year.
He also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 each on the two men.
The duo had forcibly taken away the girl to a jungle near her house, raped and murdered her.
