A ten-member gang allegedly attacked three people, killing two and seriously injuring another at Valandharavai village near here, police said today.
The accused had tied up the trio, belonging to a rival gang, with ropes and attacked them with deadly weapons including, sickles, they said.
While Mani (32) and Vijay (26) died on the spot, another person who sustained serious injuries has been admitted to Madurai Government Rajaji hospital, where his condition was said to be critical.
Police said the killing was a fallout of bitter rivalry between two groups led by Dharma and Baskaran.
The victims belonging to Baskaran's gang had come to the village to attend a function.
The attack took place when they were asleep in a nearby garden after consuming liquor.
Police suspect the hand of Dharma in the alleged killing of Vijay and Mani.
