Two held for bid to extort Rs 25 cr from Chevella MP

Two persons were arrested on the charge of trying to extort Rs 25 crore from Chevella Member of Parliament Konda Vishweshwar Reddy by allegedly sending threatening emails, police said today.

The MP's son Konda Anindith Reddy, lodged a complaint with Cyber Crime Police, Cyberabad, stating that on January 8, he had received emails asking him to pay Rs 25 crore, which stated that if the money was not paid, complaints would be lodged before the authorities that Vishweshwar Reddy had filed false affidavit before contesting the general elections, they said.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered under relevant provisions of IPC and IT Act.
 

During the course of investigation, the Cyber Crime Police collected incriminating evidence relating to the offence and identified that the accused N Venkata Ramana Reddy, a resident of Jubilee Hills here, along with one Kumar of Bangalore, a native of Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, and Rajesh, cousin of Kumar, were instrumental in threatening and trying to extort money, a release from Cyberabad Police said.

The Cyber Crime Police negotiated with the accused and laid a trap and apprehended N Venkata Ramana Reddy and Rajesh, and seized incriminating evidence from them.

Efforts are on to nab Kumar, who is absconding. Probe is on.
