With the arrest of two youths, Delhi Police today claimed to have busted a gang which allegedly duped people on the pretext of tour, travel and holiday packages, insurance and other fake policies.

While the arrested persons have been identified as Dheeraj Kumar Mishra (22) and Sudhir Kumar Dhiman (28), the alleged mastermind, Muninder Kumar Prajapati, is still at large, said DCP (West) Pushpendra Kumar.

The activities of the gang came to fore when a complainant from Rajasthan approached police there and reported that he was duped of more than Rs 1.50 lakh on the pretext of restoration of lapsed insurance policies, said police.

But since she had sent the money to Delhi, the matter was passed on to Delhi Police and a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust was registered at Janakpuri police station, said police.

The accused had asked the complainant for another instalment of Rs 12,500, preferably through courier service, with the help of which a trap was laid and two of the accused were arrested on Wednesday, police added.

During investigation the accused confessed that they lured people by promising them restoration of their lapsed policies and collected huge amount into their accounts.

They had also allegedly cheated several people on the pretext of tour, travel and holiday packages and other fake policies, said police.

Both accused said that they were roped in by Prajapati who had floated a sham finance company for the purpose. His prime aide Mishra had further floated subsidiaries and operated from two offices located at west Delhi's Uttam Nagar and Janak Puri areas.

Investigation is underway and efforts are on to nab Prajapati and the other associates, whose identities are yet to be ascertained, police added.
