In separate incidents, two persons were arrested for allegedly killing two six-month-old girls, police said today.

In the first case, one Mohd Saleem was arrested by Kamatipura police yesterday for allegedly killing his six-month-old daughter, they said.

Saleem, who wanted a male child, allegedly used to torture his wife for giving birth to three daughters, the youngest one being the victim, police said.

"On September 27, Saleem had a heated argument with his wife. Hearing the spat, the baby started crying due to which Saleem lost his temper and allegedly threw her on a sofa, from where she fell down on the floor," a release from Hyderabad Police said.

Although Saleem later took the baby to a nearby hospital, she was declared dead.

A case was booked and the post-mortem report revealed that the infant had died due to internal head injury.

The release added that during the course of investigation, it came to light that the accused had been harassing his wife on the grounds that she had given birth only to girls and not a boy, it said.

In another case, booked by Bhavani Nagar police, one Harshiya Begum was arrested yesterday for allegedly murdering a six-month-old daughter of her relative by throwing her into a well following quarrel with relatives. The incident had taken place on September 30, police said.
