Police have arrested two persons for allegedly killing a man and severely injuring four others, including the victim's minor son, a taekwondo black belt whose legs had to be amputated after the incident in northeast Delhi's Bhajanpura area last month.

The accused, identified as Sunil Basoya and Sandeep Tyagi were involved in an abduction-cum-murder case in which the deceased Kailash Gupta was the prime witness, a senior police official said today.

The incident took place on June 21 when Gupta and his son Rajan, who were on a motorbike, were attacked by a group of assailants travelling in a car near the Chand Bag traffic intersection.

The assailants opened fire at them and fled. Three other persons present at the traffic intersection also sustained bullet injuries. All were rushed to a hospital where Gupta was declared brought dead and his son and others were admitted.

The case was later handed over to Delhi Police's Special Cell.

The police received a tip-off yesterday, based on which they laid a trap near a hospital in Dilshad Garden area where the duo arrived around 10.45 PM in the same car, DCP (Special Cell) Pramod Kushwah said.

The duo opened fire at the police team too but the personnel escaped unhurt as bullets hit their bullet-proof vests. The accused were overpowered after the brief encounter.

The duo were involved in several armed robberies, abduction and at least three murder cases in Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh, he added.
