Two persons have been arrested for allegedly killing the 18-year-old girl whose body was found with her throat slit after she went missing last week at Phugana village here, police said today, stating a failed relationship as the motive behind the murder.

SP (rural) Vinit Bhatnagar told reporters here that Aarti was in a relationship with Pinki (22) six months ago. He got married to someone else after which Aarti had been pressurising him to break his existing marriage and marry her.

Following this issue, Aarti's body was found with her throat slit from sugarcane fields in the village on December 8, a day after she went missing, Bhatnagar said.

Police yesterday arrested Pinki, his accomplice Harendra and also recovered the weapon used in the crime, he said.

Angered by the girl's death, villagers had blocked the Karnal highway here on December 9 for hours demanding action against the accused. Security was also tightened in the village to thwart any untoward incident.
