Two held for running fake lottery racket

Two persons were arrested by the anti-terror squad of Uttar Pradesh police for allegedly running a fake lottery racket and duping people of several lakhs of rupees, a senior police official said today.

Two persons Krishna Kumar and Anubhav Kumar of Jankipuram area were arrested by the ATS on Jun 22 and 62 ATM cards of different banks, mobiles and laptops were recovered from them, ADG, Law and Order Arun Kumar told reporters here.

He said that Rs 3.19 lakh cash has also been recovered from them.

About their modus operandi, Kumar said that they used to send SMSes and fake spoofed e-mail of lottery wins through fake e-mail Ids and notify the victim that they need to open new bank accounts for the transfer of the prize money.
 

They used to charge three per cent of the transactions in advance for the purpose.

When received, they used to transfer the money to bank accounts in Jeddah and Pakistan, police said.

A case has been registered in this connection. Meanwhile, the ATS officials are probing their links.
