Two men were arrested at the Delhi airport today for allegedly trying to smuggle out foreign currency worth Rs 44 lakh by hiding it in their rectum.

The accused were caught by customs officials at the airport when they were going to board their flight to Abu Dhabi.

"A personal search of the passengers resulted in the recovery of Euro 57,450 and UAE Dirham 600. The foreign currencies were concealed by the passengers in their rectum," a press release issued by the customs department said.

The value of the foreign currency is about Rs 44 lakh, the release said, adding the accused are in their early forties.

Last year, customs officials had arrested four persons, including two women, for trying to smuggle out foreign currency worth Rs 1.5 crore in the same manner.
