Two held for trying to smuggle out 183 turtles

Two persons were apprehended today from the international airport here for allegedly attempting to smuggle out 183 endangered species of turtles to Malaysia, custom officials said.

"We have apprehended two persons - Sayyad Sikandar and Shahjahan Mohammed - with 183 turtles valued at around Rs 1.83 lakh," said Milind Lanjewar, Additional Commissioner of Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai Customs.

The accused have been handed over to Forest Department for further action, he said.
