The incident had rocked the nation and prompted the state government to order a probe by an IG-rank official which had indicted the district police headed by the then SP Vivek Kumar whom the 24 year-old victim had met on a number of occasions to complain about harassment by six perpetrators.
The local people, including students, had also launched a massive agitation in Sitamarhi town and burnt vehicles to protest against police inaction against harassment of the girl.
