The Air Intelligence Unit of the Mumbai Customs today arrested two persons, including an engineer of Air India, in connection with alleged gold smuggling, an official said.
Janardan Kondvilkar, senior superintendent service engineer of Air India, was intercepted while he was exiting from the aerobridge after attending a flight, the official said.
"His personal search resulted in a recovery of eight cut pieces of gold bars collectively weighing 1,643 grams and valued at Rs 44.10 lakh," the official said.

During the course of further probe, a man identified as Vijay Rawal, who was waiting outside the airport, was also intercepted.
They are investigating the source of the gold and also trying to identify the gang involved.
