Two held with 196 kg of poppy in Jammu

Two persons have been arrestedfor allegedly trying to smuggle 196-kg of poppy in Punjab from Kashmir, police said today.

Joga Singh and Bika Ali Choudhary were arrested at Nagrota check post on the outskirts of Jammu city last evening when they were on their way to Punjab from Srinagar in a truck, a police official said.

"A police team stopped the truck and during a search, it recovered 196 kg ofpoppy which was packed in bags and loaded in the truck for being smuggled into Punjab," the officer said, adding the duo were arrested and a case was registered.

Since Monday, police has recovered over 350 kg of poppy after it foiledtwo smuggling bids on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
 

Police had recovered 156 kg of poppy from a Punjab-bound truck on Monday, and arrested two persons, including the truck driver, in Udhampur district of the state.
