A woman and a man were arrested near the Haiderpur Badli Mor Metro station here for allegedly carrying fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 4 lakh on Thursday, a senior police official said.
The accused were identified as Shiksha (32), a resident of Panipat in Haryana and originally hailing from West Bengal and Gautam Mandal (25), a resident of Malda district in West Bengal, they said.
"On Wednesday, police received information that Mandal would come near Haiderpur Badli Mor metro station to deliver a huge consignment of FICN to Shiksha, following which a trap was laid and both the accused were arrested at around 08:35 am," said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime).
Police seized fake notes of Rs 2,000 denomination with face value of Rs 4,00,000, they said. While counterfeit notes worth Rs 2.5 lakh were seized from Shiksha, those having total face value of Rs 1.5 lakh were seized from Mandal.
During interrogation, Mandal, who was involved in the circulation since 2018, said that the fake notes are being pumped into India through the borders with Bangladesh, the DCP said.

The supply is brought to Kaliachak area of Malda and from there it is being circulated to different parts of the country, police said.
Police said Mandal has already delivered four-five consignments in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Shiksha was circulating the fake notes from the past three years, they added.
