Two held with over Rs 45 lakh cash in Bihar

A businessman and his son carrying Rs 45.5 lakh unaccounted cash were arrested today from a place under Town police station in Bihar's East Champaran district, the police said.

Acting on a tip off, a police arrested Shambhu Gupta and his son Roushan Kumar from near their residence on Dharm Samaj Road and seized Rs 45.5 lakh cash from them after they failed to explain source of the money.

The money belonged to a political party and was meant for use during the elections, the sources said.

Eleven persons were arrested yesterday with Rs 8.49 lakh unaccounted cash from an SUV at a toll plaza on NH-28 under Chakia police station area of East Champaran district.
 

To stop use of black money during election, the EC has initiated a mechanism by which EC-nominated flying squads can scrutinise any cash beyond Rs 50,000 and the individual or entity carrying the amount should furnish documents in this regard.
