Two held with Rs 6 lakh in fake currency notes

Two persons have been arrested here and fake currency with a face value of Rs 6.37 lakh seized from their possession, police said today.

The incident came to light on December 1, when one Bahar Din, a resident of Reasi district, lodged a complaint of receiving fake currency with a face value of Rs 6,000 in denomination of 12 notes of Rs 500 from one Mohd Maqbool, Reasi SSP Tahir Bhat told PTI.

Maqbool was arrested on December 6 and in turn he told police that one Showkat Ahmed, a resident of Kulgam district, gave the fake currency to him.
 

Police yesterday apprehended Ahmed from Sidhra area of Jammu, the SSP said.

A total of Rs 6,37,550 fake currency was recovered from them along with a computer, a paper cutting machine, a paper cutter, a bundle of photocopy paper, the police said.

The recovery made by police included 117 notes of Rs 500 denomination, 278 notes of Rs 200 and 19 notes of Rs 50 denomination, they said.
