Two alleged highway robbers were arrested here with police today claiming that they belong to the 'Nizam gang' and were trying to sell a stolen truck here.

Khalid and Abid of Meerut and Bulandshahar respectively were apprehended from Nand Nagri recently on a tip-off, Ravindra Yadav, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), said.

"Police noticed a truck parked near DTC Bus stand. One person out of the two sitting in the truck came out and started waiting for someone, thus arousing suspicion. Both of the accused failed to give satisfactory answer when they were apprehended and asked to produce the ownership documents of the truck," he said.

During investigation, Khalid disclosed that on early morning on May 2, he along with his associates were roaming on the Muzaffar Nagar-Haridwar highway in search of a prey. They spotted a vacant truck going which was going to Haridwar from Muzaffar Nagar, said Yadav.

They overtook the truck with the help of a Canter tempo. After allegedly beating up the driver & helper of the truck, they threw both the victims at a lonely field near Mansurpur Khatauli in UP.

"The other accused, Abid, is also a truck driver. His is a close relative Nazim," Yadav said.

The recovered truck has been seized and police in Muzaffarnagar has been informed. Efforts are being made to nab the remaining members of the gang, said police.
