Two persons including a police constable from Manpada police station in Dombivili were arrested by ACB today for accepting a bribe of Rs 5500.
According to DYSP Srinivas Panhale of the Thane ACB, police constable Ganesh Rajaram Marathe had made a demand of Rs 6000 from the complainant for not registering an offence against his uncle in a case.
Marathe was given a sum of Rs 3,000 in advance by the complainant. Later it was decided that Rs 2500 of the remaining amount will be handed over to one Lakhanji K Diwakar.
However, the complainant approached the ACB which laid a trap and caught Diwakar accepting the money on behalf of the constable this morning at the Jai Hanuman Pan Bhandar opposite Manpada police station on Kalyan-Shil road at Dombivili.
Later, the team of ACB officials also caught the constable who came to the Pan Bhandar to collect the bribe money around noon
Diwakar according to police was the owner of the panshop who was the agent for such collections.
Offences under prevention of corruption act have been registered against the duo with the local police the ACB added.
