Two Indian warships, INS Satpura and INS Shakti, today sailed into Thailand's Sattahip port to strengthen bilateral maritime cooperation and in pursuant of India's 'Act East' policy.
The Indian Navy's Eastern Fleet ships under the command of Rear Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh are on an operational deployment to South East Asia and Southern Indian Ocean.
As part of this deployment, INS Satpura, an indigenously-built guided missile stealth frigate, and INS Shakti, a fleet tanker and support ship, arrived at Sattahip on a four-day visit.
"The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and fostering inter-operability between navies of the two friendly nations," official sources said.
During the stay in harbour, various activities such as official calls, reception on board, guided tours for Indian naval personnel and professional interaction between personnel of both the navies, have been planned.
The ships along with two other INS Ranvir, a guided missile destroyer, and INS Kamorta, an indigenously built ASW Corvette, are on the return leg after a 45-day deployment.
Other port calls undertaken during this deployment include Singapore, Jakarta (Indonesia), Freemantle (Australia) and Sihanoukville (Cambodia).
During this deployment, two warships also participated in the bilateral exercise SIMBEX-15 with the Royal Singapore Navy from May 20 to May 26.
