Two persons were injured in an alleged exchange of fire between two rival gangs at Rayya town, about 40 kms from here, police said today.

The rival gangs opened fire from AK 47 assault rifles last night, they said.

The group led by Gurjant Singh alias Bholu targeted and opened fire on member of an another gang hailing from Rajokey village, a senior police official said.

Two persons of the gang from Rajokey were injured and admitted to a private hospital here, he said.

According to police, the shootout incident was an outcome of a dispute over taking possession of a consignment of drugs from Pakistan.

Gurjant, a resident of Havilan village, was arrested by police in March 2010 with 26-kg heroin worth Rs 130 crore. He managed to escape from jail custody in February this year, police said.
