Two injured in train derailment

Two persons were injured today when three coaches of Kolkata-Haldibari intercity express jumped the railway tracks between Nalhati and Chatra stations at Sahibganj loop of the Eastern Railway, officials said.

Two passengers, identified as Indranil Gupta and Jaman Haque, sustained injuries in the derailment, an eastern Railway release said here.

Accident relief trains and medical vans have been rushed from Rampurhat and Sahibganj to the site.

General manager, other principal head of departments and divisional railway manager of Howrah division of the railway rushed to the site by a special train from Howrah to supervise relief and restoration work.

One special train left Rampurhat for Malda to clear the stranded passengers.
 

The railway has opened a helpline 23503537 at Sealdah station and two - 23503076 and 27050307 - in Kolkata station.
