Two IT students have been arrested by Rajasthan police from Shimla for allegedly defrauding BSNL and causing loss to the tune of Rs 8 lakh, police said here today.

Kulshrestha Verma and Hardik Sood, both aged 19 years, hacked e-process of the IT service provider firm Data Infosys, which recharges BSNL's prepaid mobile phones. They then recharged over 500 mobile numbers of Shimla circle last year, causing loss of Rs 8 lakh to the provider, they said.

The company detected that some mobile numbers were fraudulently recharged for Rs 8 lakh in Shimla circle. Following which, it lodged an FIR with cyber police station in November last year, they added.

"Both the accused, who are II-year student of IT branch in APG University-Shimla, were held yesterday by a team of Jaipur Police and they are being brought here for interrogation on a transit remand," the police said.
