Six persons, including two juveniles, were arrested today in connection with the murder of a 36-year-old Film City security contractor in suburban Goregaon yesterday, police said today.
Virmani Pandian was attacked with sharp edged weapons at around 12:30 pm near Aarey Dairy yesterday. He was declared dead on arrival after he was rushed to a hospital.
"Pandian had recently bagged a contract for providing security on sets at the Film City," said DCP (Zone XII) Kirankumar Chavan.
He said Pandian's business rival Cheliyar Durai (48) is the main accused behind the murder which was planned by him and his associate Cheliya Raja (40), and executed by Hyder Ali (30), Ventakesh Harijan (22) and two juveniles.
Police said that the accused came on bikes and attacked Pandian with knives, before fleeing.
The victim had received 15 stab wounds in the attack.
While two accused were arrested last night, the rest were arrested today from different places in the city, the DCP added.
Police suspect that more people were involved in the matter and further probe is underway.
Meanwhile, family members of the deceased staged a protest at Aarey police station this morning demanding speedy justice in the case.
