Two persons died and nine others sustained injuries in a road accident involving a group of people who were on their way to perform the last rites of a relative near here this morning, police said today.
The mishap took place when a minibus was hit by a truck from the rear near Indapur on the Pune-Solapur highway, about 90km from here.
Police said an ambulance, carrying a body, and a minibus, in which the relatives of the deceased were travelling, were on their way to Mangalwedha in Solapur district for the last rites.
"The ambulance was ahead of the minibus when the accident took place. A truck rammed into the minibus from the rear and the bus collided with the ambulance," said a station duty officer with Indapur police station.
In the accident, two people travelling in the minibus died on the spot and nine people suffered serious injuries, he said.
