A low-floor DTC bus ploughed into some vehicles outside Azadpur metro station in northwest Delhi today, killing two persons, including a teenager, and injuring three others, the police said.

The driver lost control of the bus after a tyre burst, they added.

The bus hit three vehicles--two e-rickshaws and an autorickshaw. Fearing that locals might hurt him, the driver, Ranbir Singh (55), fled from the spot leaving the bus behind but was later arrested, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Milind Dumbere said.

An e-rickshaws was moving while the autorickshaw and the other e-rickshaw were parked there, police said.

The incident occurred around 11.30 AM outside Azadpur metro station when the 901 bus, plying on the route between Kamla Market and Mongolpuri, suddenly spiralled out of control and hit the three vehicles.

E-rickshaw drivers, Devender and Shahrukh, were injured in the accident along with auto driver Tarun.

A 15-year-old boy, Sparsh Rawal, and 45-year-old Achar Singh, who were in the moving e-rickshaw were also injured.

Locals rushed Devendra, Shahrukh and Tarun to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital whereas Sparsh was admitted to Fortis Hospital.

Devendra was declared brought dead at the hospital while the teenager succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Singh is currently undergoing treatment at a city hospital and his condition is stated to be critical. He is posted in JNU as a security guard.

Enraged by the incident, the locals damaged the window panes of the bus and police personnel were deployed to control the unruly crowd.

Prima facie, it seems that the accident occurred because a tyre of the bus burst but a mechanical and forensic examination of the vehicle will be carried out to determine the exact cause, police said.

The deceased, Sparsh, was a Class X student and was returning from his tuition classes. He was an aspiring badminton player and considered Pullela Gopichand as his ideal.

He was the youngest among his siblings and stayed with his family in Mahendra Enclave.

Devendra, who was killed in the accident, was a resident of Bihar and had fixed his daughter's marriage around 15 days ago. He had called his family from Bihar for his daughter's wedding shopping.
