Two killed, five injured as truck hits police jeep

Two persons including a policeman were killed, while five police personnel were seriously injured when a truck dashed into a police patrol jeep during the wee hours today in Naugachia in Bhagalpur district of Bihar.

Naugachia Superintendent of Police (SP) Shekhar Kumar said, "The incident happened on National Highway - 31 near Makandpur Chowk under Gopalpur police station. A speeding truck lost its control and hit a police patrol jeep, killing a constable Avinash Kumar (35) on the spot. Five police personnel traveling in it have been seriously injured."

Kumar added that three of the five injured police personnel were in serious condition. They are being treated at Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur.
 

The SP said the police jeep rammed into a multi-utility vehicle parked on the roadside after being hit by the truck. One person identified as Mohammad Afroz (30), who was resting in the vehicle died in the impact.

Meanwhile, the dead bodies have been sent for postmortem. The police is looking for the truck and its driver, who escaped with the vehicle after the incident.
